Personal care assistance services help a person with day-to-day activities in their home and community. PCAs help people with activities of daily living, health-related procedures and tasks, observation and redirection of behaviors and instrumental activities of daily living for adults.

Prenatal Education
A public health nurse can work with you one-on-one in the community or in your home to provide education for a healthy pregnancy. Education will include physical and emotional changes during pregnancy, how to prepare for labor and birth, breastfeeding, newborn care, and growth and development.

A public health nurse will visit you after you return home with your baby. The nurse will assess baby’s growth and development, answer any questions you may have and will connect you to community resources available to you.

Car Seat Distribution & Education
Kittson County Public Health provides education for choosing the right child safety restraint and instructions for correct use. Free car seats are available through Public Health to eligible Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare members.

Program designed for children with special needs such as speech delays, movement problems or learning disabilities. Provide coordination of services such as physical therapy, speech therapy, early childhood special education or any other needed services to help children develop.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
SNAP, formerly know as Food Stamps, helps Minnesotans with low incomes get the food they need for nutritious and well-balanced meals. The program provides support to help stretch your household food budget. It is not intended to meet all of your household’s food needs. It is a supplement. If you are approved for SNAP, you can use your benefits at many stores, farmers markets and senior dining sites. Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) debit cards are used to make food purchases. Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center is located in Hallock, Minnesota; with a satellite medical clinic in Karlstad, MN. The main medical campus consists of a fifteen bed hospital, medical clinic, a sixty bed nursing home (with a dedicated memory unit), home health/public health care agency, and assisted living center. Within the campus is also a community fitness center and independent dental clinic. The facility is also home to an ambulance service that serves the community and surrounding communities.
